Daily Life Questions

How is that sun on your face?

Do you just sit and think at the wonder of life?

Storytime: Bobson & Birds

Bobson was feeling a bit sick in his stomach.  Some days he didn’t think going to school was what he wanted to do.  Other times he noticed he didn’t make eye contact with the popular kids at school.  In gym class he was getting picked last to be on a team.

After school he was at Grandma’s.  They were sitting on woven lawn chairs in the backyard having tall glasses of root beer floats. It was warm out, beautiful. The trees rustled in the breeze, the flowers basked in the sunshine and the birds were busy.

Grandma looked over, “Why aren’t you drinking your float? Is it not floaty enough?”

Bobson sighed, “No, it’s not that.  It is plenty floaty.  It’s just that I’m not feeling so well, especially on school days.”

Grandma said “Tell me more.”

Bobson, with a quiver in his voice, told of how he stuck up for Conner at the water fountain when Conner was getting picked on.  Together they enjoyed lunch. Bobson and Conner learned they had Minecraft in common.

“Then everything changed,” said Bobson, “I started getting treated different, I don’t know how to explain it, but I can tell I am not welcome with most of the kids at school. I feel stupid and lonely.  Why did I hang out with Conner?  Now the kids don’t like me.”

“My warrior,” said Grandma, “no wonder you aren’t drinking your float, hard times are not easy, they can make you lose your appetite. You are marvelous, and have every right to be sad. Those kids are quite wrong, and are missing out on getting to know you.”

“Let me tell you of Jesus, the smartest person I know.  He was sitting having a chat with some people like you and me.  Some of those people were anxious; they had so many worries about physical things.  He wanted them to know how important and loved they were.  He wanted them to see that they were spirit in a physical body. Ultimately, nothing could separate them from God’s love, not taunts, not being picked last in school, not death, not a ragged shirt or only bread and lard for supper. As he was speaking, Jesus saw a bird flying by, and said, don’t worry, your heavenly father cares for the birds.”

“You, Bobson, are you not much more valuable then birds?” Grandma pointed at her orange lilies, “Bobson, are you not more loved than the lilies that flower today, and are gone tomorrow? Surely, God cares more about you, than them.”

Grandma looked Bobson in the eye, “ Jesus is with you, Bobson.  He is closer to you than the hair on your spikey little head.  It is hard not to be affected by the other kids. I know a little of what you are going through. Jesus went through things much worse than we will ever know, but he didn’t take his eyes off God. Those feelings you have are good.  They indicate something is wrong.  It is your choice, what you are going to do.”

“What am I going to do?” asked Bobson

“Well, like a dump truck, back up your worries to God, and offload them, refuse to take them back.” said Grandma with a twinkle in her eye. “Then live your life as the constant friend of Jesus, ask him to stand between you and everyone around you. Remind yourself constantly that those kids are mistaken.”

Grandma began to pray, as she chatted with God, she looked into Bobson’s eyes. “Jesus,” Grandma said with authority, “you will never leave us alone, you care too much for us. In particular you are delighted by Bobson, you made him with great care and attention, like a potter carefully molds, and flattens and molds and decorates a beautiful clay pot. You said how much more valuable Bobson is than any flower or bird. So, be with Bobson. Be his help as he puts all his confidence in you.  Be there as he walks down the school hallways, as he sits with friends, as he makes choices.  Take away that ill feeling in his stomach. Help him to finish his float, it is getting melty, not floaty. Amen! Whoopee!”

Then grandma said, “No matter what, tell God what is going on and he will help set your mind right. And do not be afraid to tell me what is going on, I love to hear from you and your heart. Those kids at school think they are flying upside right, with their rejection of other kids. In reality, they are upside down, and have no idea. They are wrong.”

Bobson was at the bottom of his float, sucking out the last bits, wondering if there was enough root beer and ice cream for another smallish float.

God sees the heart. Talk about God seeing the hearts of the people in this story.

Have you ever been rejected by someone you wanted to be accepted by?

How did you feel? What did you do?

God Cares For You

Read Matthew 6:25 through to 6:34

God loves people. He has all the time in the world for each individual person.  God really enjoyed playing about creating flowers and birds and types of rocks and planets. How much more he loved making people!

What were the people worried about?

What flower did Jesus use as an example?

What animal did Jesus use as an example?

What are you worried about?

Do you think every time a worry starts, or a sad time in your life begins, you can immediately drop it into God’s hand?  Then can you actively with God, live well through this hard time?

Pray and ask God, chat with God. Tell him the the things that you are grateful for.  Thank him! Food, clothes, friends, parents, grandparents!

Pray Tell him the bad stuff that people have done to you and you have done to others.  Lay the bad stuff in his hand. Join him as he works through this with you. Ask for forgiveness. Think well and turn away from doing wrong.

MATTHEW 6:30

Father’s Day!

Are you glad today you are alive?  We can thank our father’s, our grandfather’s for that! Isn’t it wonderful to be living here and now, even when things are tough.

Write your dad or grandpa a note in invisible ink to let them know you love them!

Supplies: Lemon juice, Q-tip or small paintbrush, water, small bowl, white paper, light.
Put a tablespoon or two of lemon juice and a few drops of water to dilute the lemon juice a little in the small bowl. Dip a Q-tip into the lemon solution.
Write your note on the white paper.
Let it dry. Once it is dry, hold it up to a light to read the invisible message.
