Off The Fence

Hey Everyooonnneeee!

Sorry, the wind caught me, so I have secured myself to chair. But if I want to visit my sister to the west, it should be a quick trip, strapped to a blue tarp and off I go.

Choose: Watch the video, read the bible, colour, act out the lost sheep, think, encourage questions.

Daily Life Questions

What have you been thinking about this week?

Have you actively given that to God, and then joined him as you have worked through that thought?  Are you spending time, just being quiet with God?

Storytime: Bobson Steps Off the Fence

Bobson liked school. He got to play with friends and learn new things.  He saw Conner was always getting picked on.  Kids made up a song, “Circle, circle, dot, dot, now I have a germ shot”.  If they touched Conner or got near him, they would sing that song.

Bobson watched how Conner responded.  Conner gave up getting mad or defensive.  The kids were relentless. Instead Conner would go off by himself and sit with other kids that had been alienated.  And then even those kids were mean to each other.

Bobson saw the soul destroying actions of his classmates.  But what could he do? He wasn’t popular, a smooth talker or good looking.  In fact he was just sitting on the fence, hoping he wouldn’t get bullied.  If he kept his head low, maybe the kids wouldn’t get him.

Jesus was with Bobson.  Bobson knew God cared about him, the person he was becoming.  Bobson realized he had started cultivating care for others.  He then wanted to act on that love, obeying was getting easy, he wanted to step out.

In the hallway after Conner had got a drink from the water fountain, the kids started pushing and taunting him.  They had decided the water fountain was contaminated, because Conner drank from it.

Bobson, with God, was ready for battle.  He walked in amidst the kids, gently took Conner’s arm, looked him in the eye, and said “Hey, it is lunchtime, can I eat with you?”

God sees the heart. Talk about God seeing the hearts of the people in this story.

Have you ever stuck up for someone? What happened?

Do you think it is easier for adults or kids to step out of their comfort zone?

Jesus tells the Parable of the Lost Sheep

What’s a parable?

Jesus talked in little stories to help people use their imaginations and think about life, those are parables.

Salvation is a kind of life, that is given through Jesus, available to be lived now and forever.  Jesus doesn’t wish anyone to miss out on this life. Jesus talked so that everyone who had ears for hearing, would hear. Not everyone has ears for hearing. Some have ears for twisting things to their own desires based on their experiences. Jesus told parables to help us think hard and well about the life available to us.

Read Matthew 18:10-14

How many sheep did the shepherd have?

How many were lost?

Did the shepherd go and find that lost one?  Why?

What did he do after he found the lost sheep?

In the same way do you think God cares for people?

Do you think God ever would say “That person is useless, I will not love him, I give up on him, he stinks real bad”?

Is there someone you think is hopelessly lost?  Who can you pray for everyday? God is looking for people who will pray.

Celebration: Training in the discipline of celebration.

We celebrate to remember the good things that God has done for us.  We need to remember how God has been with us in hard times, as well as easy times.  This is why we must train in celebration!  We drink and eat food we enjoy, we dance, streamers, bunting, cupcakes, cucumbers and dip, good music, people!!

Pray and ask God, chat with God. Tell him the good memories, then put all that good stuff in a painting, and paint it. Thank him for the good things.

Pray Tell God the stuff you are worried about.  Jesus will come and listen. Give him the worries. Then actively do things like read your bible, sing, rest, serve others, be thankful, remember the good.
