Storytime: Rightkirk, the Listener of Gossip
Rightkirk, on the swingset, listens to his trusted friend, Jaygood. Jaygood says “We shouldn’t play with Bobson, he steals.” And in a split second Rightkirk looks at Bobson a little differently.
Rightkirk is playing marbles with another friend, Rosco, and Rosco says, “You better count your marbles, Bobson is known to steal, he will probably take your shiniest marbles. He is like a crow.” Rightkirk thinks about Bobson, and starts fearing the theft of his toys and thinks of how bad Bobson is to be stealing. Rightkirk starts avoiding Bobson.
Rightkirk then doesn’t think about his thinking. He just keeps feeding the idea that Bobson is a thief. He never gets to know Bobson. In Sunday School he ignores Bobson. At school he judges Bobson. He feeds his dark thoughts. He thinks he is righteous in thinking, after all, isn’t one of the ten commandments “Do not steal?” Rightkirk began a habit of listening to others and believing what they said, without thinking well. And his life became sad.
God sees the heart. Talk about God seeing the hearts of the people in this story.
Do you think if Rightkirk had repented, thought about his thoughts, Jesus would have been there immediately by his side ready to be with him, and do life with him?
Do you think people got wrong ideas about Jesus because of how Rightkirk treated Bobson?
Both Jesus and John the baptizing cousin, came announcing the same great news, “Repent the Kingdom of God is here. Or in a little easier language, Think about how you have been thinking about everything. A marvelous life with God’s action in your life is available.
Jesus starts gathering students around him.

Do some research on what a Rabbi is and what a disciple is, and more about the Jewish tradition. A Rabbi is a Jewish teacher of God. A disciple is a full time student of the Rabbi.
Which lake were the men fishing?
Who were the men in the boat with Jesus?
Was Jesus very interested in their daily lives? Were they just regular people like you?
How did he show that he was active in their lives and in his creation?
How many fish did the men catch the previous night?
How many fish did the men catch when, Jesus was with them?
Do you think Jesus can be with you, in your every day life?
Do you think your everyday life will show people the way to Jesus? Or should you hit them over the head with a Bible? “What is meant by fishers of men?”
Pray and ask God, chat with God. Tell him the sad things, then put all that stuff in a rock, and throw it. (Be outside, not near windows perhaps.) Say “Here you go Jesus, you can have this, let’s do this together.” Then daily go with Jesus as you think and do.
